Joe H. Yates, Esq.
Joe is a 1963 graduate of Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama. He then went on to the University of Alabama where he graduated with a B.S. in Commerce and Business Administration in 1967 before attending law school at the University of Alabama as well. He graduated from law school in 1970 and moved to Atlanta, Georgia.
He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves from 1968 to 1974.
While in Atlanta, he worked as a bartender at Steak and Ale while he interviewed with companies. Additionally, he worked at The Ambry Steakhouse, where he polished his skills as a salesman.
In 1972, Joe moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and worked at the law firm of Saunders, Curtis, Ginestra & Gore until 1975. During that time, he was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1973 and the Alabama Bar on November 21, 1974. Additionally, Joe met his future wife, Nancy Kennedy, of Ft. Lauderdale. The two were married on August 10, 1974.
Joe and Nancy moved to Florence, Alabama in 1975, when he started his own law firm. Since its inception, Joe’s law practice has focused on the same areas of law as he does today: commercial and residential real estate, estate planning and administration, trusts and corporate law. Joe and Nancy have raised two daughters, Jennifer and Julie, here in Florence also. They followed in their father’s footsteps and both graduated from Coffee High School as well.
Joe is a past president of the Lauderdale County Bar Association, a past president of Civitan of Florence, a past president of the Killen Lions Club, and a past president of the Lauderdale Cattlemen Association. He served as past commander of the American Legion, Post 11, as well.
In addition to running his law practice, Joe was in the cattle business from 1977 to 2002 and has also been a wood turner for the past 15 years.
Joe is admitted to practice law in the Northern District of Alabama and to all Alabama courts.
